a Pro

“pro” is someone who shows up every day and regardless of circumstance and does all that is required of them, without fail. The league is an unforgiving place, and outside of a select few players with otherworldly talent and ability, someone without that professional approach will find themselves looking for a job. This league has seen countless incredibly talented players come and go, replaced by players that, in terms of ability, fall short in comparison. However, you can ask any GM or head coach, this asset is what sets them apart and allows them to stick. Nick is one of those guys. – via Josh Huestis Blog

CJ McCollum Ethic

My sophomore year when I didn’t start varsity, I was coming off the bench, sixth man, and that was when I was like ‘Alright, I’m a little behind,’” said McCollum. “You start to look at the trajectory levels of where you’re at — I’m a realist — averaging 6.0 points a game on varsity, I’m 5-7 and I really need to take my game to the next level if I want to make this dream a reality. So I just kind of focused. I evaluated my lifestyle, my work ethic, reevaluated how I could kind of get better and find my niche. Continued to shoot, shoot, shoot, handle, perfect my craft so once I grew a little bit more and got my chance to start varsity, I just told myself ‘This is it. If you leave everything out here, you give yourself the best chance to get a scholarship.’ Then for me, it was baby steps. Get a Division I scholarship and then get to the league, but I hadn’t got that scholarship yet, so I wasn’t even thinking about the league. I was like ‘Just get this scholarship.’ I got my first offer and I was like ‘Alright, we got one, let’s get some more.’ That’s kind of how it went, it kind of snowballed.”

Tomorrow - Follow the sun

Faith that there will be a tomorrow

I know what's wrong my dear, but I really don't know how to turn it off.

Again, I don't know how the       I got here, but I know I need to get the Hell out.

The best day I ever had was when the sun was shining and everyone I loved was smiling.

Let every time of day have its place.

To wake yourself up, put yourself in the moment.

Knowledge is learning something new everyday, wisdom is letting go of something everyday.

Life is the purpose of virtue.

Because the rivers flow is constant, it is always the same, always new.

To unlock the inner strength - where my essence will be
It's the knowledge of self - understanding the things around me that becomes with wisdom that I need
Living this life to the best of my ability - channeling my thoughts into your symmetry

The beginning of knowledge is to call things by their right names.

Get a steady hand.

The architect raises his structure in imagination before he erects it in reality.

Habits are the backroads of the unconscious.

Share the gift of life.

Prayer is life contemplated at the highest level.

Perception is not whimsical but fatal

If with closed ears and eyes I consult consciousness for a moment, immediately are all walls and barriers dissipated, Earth roll from under me, and I float... - Thoreau

The life of man is a self evolving circle, which, from a ring imperceptibly small, rushes on all sides outwards to new and larger circles, and that without end.

They know enough, who know to learn

Concrete slabs over green grass, but the rose still grows from the rocks and outlasts.

Human life is about being in the world without becoming the world.

Man, when perfected, is the best of animals; but if he be isolated from law and justice is the worst of all.

If you care about people. Set the example.

To enter the world first hand is to enter into its grasp.

A darkness of the heart cannot be cured by moving the body from one place to another.

When a man lives with God, his voice shall be as sweet as the murmur of the brook and the rustle of corn.

War corrupts the body as it corrupts the mind.

Habits are first cobwebs, then cables.

Freedom consists not in refusing to recognize anything above us, but in respecting something which is above us; for by respecting it, we raise ourselves to it, and, by our very acknowledgement, prove that we bear within ourselves what is higher, and are worthy to be on a level with it.

Friends.

Max Ehrmann Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Notes from College

You can't learn it in one day, it takes time. It's mind over matter. Where there's a will, there's a way. You have to try to succeed, still can't do it? Try harder.

Foresight should not be directed at the future in any measure, but instead toward the true nature and essence of your being. This will turn your thoughts and actions toward that which flows through you.

If you love your friends, be the example.
